I enjoyed the class. I think we are going to learn a lot with the use of the Google Docs page. There are surely aspects of it and possibilities that we have only begun to discover.

I will spend some more time with the very important concepts in Chapter 3. I sometimes teach too close to my own learning curve. But we are all adult learners in this together. I learn by stretching. We have an excellent textbook and a vast wealth of educational materials available via the Web. Your three "In the News" reports last evening were good. Let's keep doing what we are doing and work together to continually learn. University experiences are largely about learning to learn. As adults we each take responsibility for our own learning, both in the classroom and far beyond throughout our lives. Learning is fun. It is hard now to imagine teaching/learning in the age prior to the Internet and the World Wide Web.

Thoughts about class

I am excited about this course including what we will learn together in the students' writing a collaborative paper using Web 2.0 tools like Google Docs. I realize that there is some concern about how this will work and about the "purpose" of the paper. Like all papers (individual or group) the purpose is for students to learn by writing about something. It is just that this time they will be writing about an important contemporary event. Perhaps the purpose is to build the foundation and then to chronicle what happens in real time.

I am okay with teaching courses I have not taught before and trying new ways to use information technology. The "bleeding edge" of technology use may not be a good place to be. But Web 2.0 tools are no longer on the bleeding edge. The use of these tools is valuable because organizations are becoming increasingly global and virtual. Managers and other employees who are comfortable using the new technology (including being comfortable with the social implications of its use) will have an advantage over others. I read somewhere recently that a "Generation Xer" said that his career success will be a function of his online connections. I think he is right about that.
